A recent build of the World of Warcraft Public Test Realm just showed off the new demon pet customizations coming to the Warlock class soon. Once Patch 10.1.5 hits World of Warcraft, Warlock players will be able to use this new system to individually customize their summoned companions.

World of Warcraft Patch 10.1.5 is going to be a big deal for Warlocks. The update opens up the Warlock class to every playable race in World of Warcraft, adds a new questline exploring these new character options, and lets Warlocks easily customize their summoned demon pets at the Barbershop.

Now, players can test out the new Warlock pet customization system for themselves on the World of Warcraft Patch 10.1.5 PTR. Each pet’s skin can be chosen individually from a selection of default options, and players will be able to unlock additional variants and colors through different activities, like defeating certain raid bosses, during Timewalking events, or as quest rewards. In the Barbershop interface, players can preview unavailable customization options and view how they can be unlocked, though some of these methods are currently unlisted.

As of the original PTR build, each demon has a different number of customizations:

  • Imps have three different skin models with several colors each, for a total of 15 options.
  • Voidwalkers have nine options, including several using the low-res model from before Legion, each with different sets of armor and bracers.
  • Felhunters have five color options spread across two different models.
  • Sayaad have three different colored Succubus options, plus the male Incubus added in Shadowlands and the Shivarra.
  • Felguards summoned by Demonology Warlocks have their default model and the Wrathguard variant.
  • Infernals summoned by Destruction Warlocks only have a single extra option–the orange Abyssal.
  • Doomguards summoned by Ritual of Doom can be changed to look like Terrorguards.

The patch notes for this build of the PTR indicated more options for the Sayaad and Infernals would be added later on, so players can expect to see more options for these Warlock demons in World of Warcraft soon. More options could come for the Felhunter, Felguard, and Doomguard later on, but Blizzard doesn’t seem to have plans to do so immediately.

Unfortunately, this new feature came with a cost. Warlocks in World of Warcraft are losing the Observer skin for their Felhunter pets for fear of its dramatically-different silhouette confusing players. Many fans are sad to see the floating eye demon go, so if enough players request it, perhaps the Observer will come back as an option in the future.

World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
