Once Starfield finally hits shelves and digital stores, it’s likely to be one of the biggest releases of this generation, which can be ascertained by the fact that it’s already near the top of Steam’s Top Sellers list with months until the title launches. It’s easy to forget that Bethesda has released a lot of games outside the Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises. The developer even dabbled in science fiction in the early days, largely through relatively obscure adaptations of the Terminator films.

These days, the studio has become almost synonymous with Skyrim, but Starfield is a chance for the company to do something a little different. Considered by many to be one of the most anticipated releases of 2023, the upcoming sci-fi RPG is one that a lot of people have been keeping an eye on. It represents something outside the developer’s usual wheelhouse, so it’s not surprising that so many people are certain that it will dominate the AAA gaming sphere once it comes out.

In fact, looking at the Steam charts shows that Starfield is currently number four on the Top Sellers list, despite the fact that the game isn’t even out yet. At the time of writing, Bethesda’s upcoming release is below Dead by Daylight, Cyberpunk 2077, and CS:GO. However, it’s above Valve’s Steam Deck device, which is currently at the number five spot. Some may be wondering how this is possible. According to a report from PC Gamer, the chart is based on revenue, so even though Starfield has not yet been released, it’s likely that pre-orders have resulted in it reaching such a high position.

However, the game does appear to be dropping down the list. PC Gamer noted that Starfield was at number two at the time of that article going live, so it’s possible that it could go down further. Still, it’s impressive for something to be so high on the Steam sales charts before it even releases. It’s also impressive to note that Starfield will have fewer bugs than any other Bethesda game, according to Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty, though whether this turns out to be true remains to be seen.

On top of that, Todd Howard says Starfield is massive, encompassing five or six games in one. Boasting over 1,000 planets on an updated version of the developer’s Creation Engine, there’s definitely a lot for fans to look forward to, even if some are basically referring it as “Skyrim in space.”
