There is a lot on the checklist for Diablo 4 players to do when first starting up the game including planning their character build, leveling up to unlock powerful new skills, and even finding hidden secrets like Altars of Lilith around Sanctuary. While battling their way through hordes of demons, players will want to keep an eye out for one enemy in particular that could prove to be a game-changer early on. Treasure Goblins are a rare and elusive enemy but have the potential to drop incredibly valuable loot that can make a huge difference in the early game.
While the series is home to many iconic enemies, Treasure Goblins are one of Diablo‘s most notable to make their return in Diablo 4 after being introduced in the previous mainline title. Although most enemies exist as obstacles for players to overcome, the Treasure Goblin is one that players will actively want to seek out since it has the potential to drop such rare gear. However, this is easier said than done since Treasure Goblins spawn randomly and require some precise timing in order to defeat them and claim their loot.
Diablo 4 Players Should Prioritize Finding Treasure Goblins to Get the Best Loot
Despite being one of the more recent additions to the Diablo franchise having first appeared in Diablo 3, Treasure Goblins have become a fan-favorite of the series due to their rarity and penchant for dropping valuable items. Their popularity with Diablo players grew to the point where they made appearances outside the series, such as in a crossover event with World of Warcraft and evening spawning an Amiibo for the Nintendo Switch release of Diablo 3. Since then, Treasure Goblins appeared again in the mobile title Diablo Immortal and have seen their latest appearance in Diablo 4.
As players progress through the game, Treasure Goblins will have a chance to spawn randomly throughout Diablo 4‘s open world. Unlike most enemies, Treasure Goblins will not attack the player and instead will try to flee by any means necessary, including diving into a portal and warping to safety in their home realm. Players will need to move quickly to pursue these creatures and deal enough damage to defeat them before they can escape through a portal, which can be a challenge when they are likely to aggro other nearby enemies who will impede their pursuit.
It’s worth the challenge to chase and defeat these monsters, however, since they have the chance to drop a variety of rare items including legendary gear and cosmetics. While Treasure Goblins killed during Diablo 4‘s Server Slam were somewhat underwhelming, players can rest assured that they have been tweaked for Diablo 4‘s launch to have a much more satisfying rate of dropping valuable goods. With a more balanced drop rate of legendary items comes the higher reward for the risk of chasing a Treasure Goblin through a horde of enemies poses, ultimately helping players get the gear necessary to repeat the process as the game goes on.
It may sound tough to find these elusive creatures, but players will want to drop whatever they’re doing and throw everything they have at any Treasure Goblins they come across in order to secure those sweet rewards. One tip to keep in mind is that the Treasure Goblin can be interrupted when opening a portal if the player hits it during this sequence, preventing it from escaping momentarily and giving players the edge they need to finish the enemy off. Diablo 4‘s Sanctuary can be a dangerous and inhospitable environment, but a lucky drop of powerful items from Treasure Goblins can greatly improve a player’s chance of survival.
