Updated August 24th, 2023: The Royal Guard Uniform in TOTK can be rather beneficial in the early game for players who are looking for a way to boost their overall defense. That said, finding the Royal Guard Armor in Tears of the Kingdom requires players to venture into the ominous Hyrule Castle. To better help players uncover all three pieces of the Royal Guard Uniform in TOTK and complete their defense-boosting set, the following guide has been updated and now includes a video.

How to Get the Royal Guard Uniform in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The armor set consists of three pieces: the Royal Guard Cap, Royal Guard Uniform, and Royal Guard Boots. All three can be found at Hyrule Castle and can be done fairly early in the game. Players will need the paraglider and perhaps a few stamina upgrades to easily make the trip from the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower to the castle. Cooking and eating stamina-increasing foods can also work in a pinch.

Royal Guard Cap

The Royal Guard Cap is located in Princess Zelda’s Room but can be a bit tricky to get to. Starting in the Sanctum, the room connected to the front entrance of the castle, take the left exit outside, and there will be a lone tower. Jump off the cliff and glide directly to the entrance of the tower to find Princess Zelda’s Study.

This room has a few weapons but no cap. Exiting the study will be a stone bridge and another doorway opposite the study. Run across the bridge quickly, as the middle of it will collapse, and drop into the hole of the new building to find Princess Zelda’s Room. The Royal Guard Cap is in a treasure chest in the corner of the room behind some changing dividers.

While staying in Princess Zelda’s Room, exit through the hole in the wall next to the Royal Guard Cap chest. Glide to the left and down below the floating Hyrule Castle to the First Gatehouse. On the path to the gatehouse will be a giant doorway in the side of the mountain. Go inside and lift up two gates with Ultrahand, then go up the stairs and take an immediate left to avoid enemies.

There will be Gloom at the end of the hallway, so take a left and go down the stairs into the Guards Chambers. Go down the stairs in the chambers, and there will be a wooden walkway above a pool of Gloom. Players will have to walk in the Gloom and Ascend through the walkway above.

Foods and armor that resist Gloom could be helpful here, though players could take no damage if quick enough to Ascend. The treasure chest containing the Royal Guard Uniform will be next to the player after ascending.

Royal Guard Boots

Glide back into Hyrule Castle from the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower, but go around the right of the castle until a shrine is visible. The Serutabomac Shrine will be behind the castle. Activate the shrine, then hop down the cliff twice to find a passageway under the shrine.

Go down the stairs until reaching the Library. Jump down to the bottom floor of the Library and face the entrance to see a giant bookcase. Activate Ultrahand to see that part of the bookcase can be moved. Move the piece out of the way to find the King’s Study and the treasure chest containing the Royal Guard Boots.
