It’s the weekend again ya’ll, and you know what that means: time for another Apps of the Week roundup! I can confidently say that this is one of my favorites of 2024 thus far, with a powerful learning app, a Markdown slideshow-maker, and an AI-infused sketch app. And as always, we’ve selected a fun new game for you to check out.

Picurious – AI Answer-Translate

Before you go rolling your eyes at the mention of another AI app, hear me out. Picurious is designed to transform any photograph into a learning opportunity, and it of course uses state-of-the-art AI technology to do that. Doing homework and come across a tough math problem? Snap it into Picurious for help. See a cool-looking bird at your local park and want to know what kind it is? You guessed it—Picurious. Language translations? Boom! Chemistry problem? Boom! Science, History, English? Boom, boom, boom! The app looks great, and if it works even half as good as the developers claim, they’ve got a hit on their hands.

Deckset may sound like patio furniture, but it’s not. It’s actually a Markdown app built for making presentations. That’s right, slide shows. It features 21 themes, a custom theme designer, an auto-layout with advanced typographic features, support for media like SVGs and GIFs, and much more. I’ll tell ya, this is one of those apps that I have absolutely no need for—I haven’t given a presentation in years—but I’m absolutely going to download and play around with it. Just look at those screenshots and tell me it doesn’t look awesome. I mean can I just use this to make my grocery lists?

Muse Pro

We’re rounding out the apps today with Muse Pro, an AI-powered art studio for iOS. Honestly, I downloaded this app as soon as I came across it. As a long-time doodler—wait that sounds weird; sketcher? Drawerer? Anyway, I draw dumb things for fun, and this app promises to take your sketches to the next level by making them more detailed and vibrant with AI. I tried Muse Pro on my iPhone, and while I could certainly see the potential, the app was clearly made for the iPad and Apple Pencil. It just needs the added screen real estate. That being said, this fuses AI and manual art in a way I’ve not seen before, so it’s definitely worth checking out.

Japan Taxi Simulator : Driving

There is this trend that has taken over gaming in recent years where people find serenity and enjoyment in performing mundane tasks via simulator. There’s big rig truck driving, farming, and now driving a taxi in Japan. If Japan Taxi Simulator : Driving doesn’t sound exciting, that’s because it’s really not. There are no missions to complete or bosses to beat; you are just a simple taxi driver, driving around Japan. It’s an open-world driving simulator with authentic modeling of Osaka’s Shsekai and Tsutenkaku areas, realistic character faces, intelligent AI traffic, and smooth driving experience. You may love it, you may hate it, but there’s only one way to find out.
