Legendary Duelists: Soulburning Volcano is an entry in Yu-Gi-Oh!’s Legendary Duelist series. Soulburning Volcano gives support cards for the Battlin’ Boxer, Salamngreat, and Volcanic archetypes.
Legendary Duelists: Soulburning Volcano supports various Fire and Pyro archetypes, both specific archetypes, and the type and attributes generically. None of the Ultra Rares in Soulburning Volcano are reprints, offering new support to all three major archetypes heavily featured in the set.
9 Salamngreat Burst Gryphon
Salamangreat Burst Gryphon is the weakest of the Ultra Rares, though that’s not really the fault of the card. The Salamangreat archetype has always been Link-focused, so there will be little reasons you would want to synchro summon a Salamangreat Burst Gryphon rather than a Link monster.
Its effect isn’t that amazing either. While special summoning from the graveyard is good in a Link deck, many of the best Salamangreat cards can already do this on their own. In addition, it can only target monsters with levels, so you can’t bring a Link monster back with it.
8 Battlin’ Boxer Uppercutter
Battlin’ Boxer Uppercutter is a nice addition to the deck, giving it a proper monster searcher. It can add either a monster or one of their counter trap cards, giving Battlin’ Boxers some much-needed consistency to give the archetype a solid play starter.
The effect triggers on both its normal and special summon, something very welcomed as it won’t force you to waste a normal summon for it unless necessary. It comes with extra effects when sent to the graveyard by a card effect, giving you recursion for either a monster or counter trap.
Battlin’ Boxer Promoter is a fantastic card for the archetype, especially if you are going second. It specials summons itself and can be traded off for two different Battlin’ Boxer monsters from the deck. Since Battlin’ Boxers is an Xyz deck, this essentially turns Battlin’ Boxer Promoter into a one-card Xyz summon – and if your opponent had a monster and you special summoned it you got to do that without using up your normal summon for the turn.
As if that wasn’t already good enough, Battlin’ Boxer Promoter can also level modulate all of your Battlin’ Boxer monsters to make it even easier to Xyz summon at any point.
6 Salamangreat Tiger
An excellent addition to Salamangreat, Salamangreat Tiger is another easy-to-special summon monster that’s also a tuner as an added boost. It can also be used as if it wasn’t a tuner for any Fire monster. Even though Salamangreat only has one synchro monster, there are plenty of powerful generic Fire synchro monsters that can be made with Salamangreat Tiger.
Making any synchro monster you want is especially easy with Salamangreat Tiger as it can either make its level lower or higher – one of the best traits a tuner can have as it lets you synchro much easier depending on what your board state is.
5 Salamangreat Raging Phoenix
Another Link monster for the archetype, Salamangreat Raging Phoenix is a solid Linik-4 for it. It’s easy to make with another copy of itself, which in turn lets you add any Salamangreat card from your deck to your hand. It lets you fetch out any card you need depending on if you’re setting up one the first turn or trying to close out a game on turn two.
It is beneficial to link summon Salamangreat Raging Phoenix with itself as it can very easily be special summoned out from the graveyard – only requiring a Fire monster to be destroyed to do so.
4 Volcanic Emperor
A new boss monster for Volcanics, Volcanic Emperor is easy to summon – especially since Volcanics can very easily fill the graveyard to reach its threshold to special summon. Afterward, you get to set any Volcanic spell or trap card. This is especially useful since the archetype largely revolves around the Blaze Acelerator cards and Volcanic Emperor very easily gets them onto the field.
Once on the field, Volcanic Emperor makes it awkward for your opponent to special summon a ton of monsters so long as it’s on the field. Since Volcanics have a lot of ways to naturally do burn damage, this becomes even better and can stop the opponent in their tracks.
3 Volcanic Trooper
Volcanic Trooper gives Volcanic decks a very solid searcher for any Volcanic card on its summon. It can also get cards you want in the graveyard out of your hand while giving your opponent a token that can cause burn damage. Some Volcanics trigger upon being sent to the graveyard, so Volcanic Trooper is a solid way to get them there – especially since you can search those out with its first effect.
Though the second effect won’t come up often, Volcanic Trooper’s first effect is the main attraction of the card. It gives Volcanics an extra layer of consistency to be more easily able to create threatening board states.
2 Battlin’ Boxer King Dempsey
Battlin’ Boxer King Dempsey is one of the best cards in the set, though not really because of its effects relating to Battlin’ Boxers. Instead, its power comes from the ability to add any level four or lower Fire Warrior monster to your hand or send it to your graveyard. Despite being a Battlin’ Boxer card, King Dempsey doesn’t need Battlin’ Boxers for its material and can be made with any two level four monsters.
Generic Xyz monsters tend to be the best, and rank fours are the easiest to make by a wide margin. Any Fire Warrior deck can take advantage of it, making it a very powerful generic Xyz monster for decks that play Fire Warriors.
1 Salamangreat Of Fire
Salamangreat Of Fire is a great searcher, able to add any level four or lower Salamangreat monster from your deck to your hand on its summon. It does lock you into Fire monsters, though this hardly matters since Salamangreat decks don’t play other archetypes and they are all Fire monsters themselves.
Salamanagreat Of Fire can add plenty of cards with the ability to special summon themselves, making it easy to start off your Link plays. Its second effect that can destroy your monster during the damage step isn’t that great and will almost never come up. However, its first effect is the star of the show when it comes to why Salamangreat Of Fire is so good.
