It was only a couple of weeks ago that we showed you an upcoming and ambitious project being undertaken by iOS developer @alfiecg_dev to make a new TrollStore installer that installs TrollStore directly and doesn’t sacrifice a system app, such as Tips.

Alfie CG shows off the redesigned TrollInstallerX UI and confirms the firmware supported by it.

TrollInstallerX, as it was being called, originally appeared with a Dopamine jailbreak-style interface, re-colored in blue. But as we noted in the post at the time, the user interface was subject to change. Fortunately, we now have a glimpse at some of the UI changes per a teaser posted just over the weekend.

In the teaser, shared to X (formerly Twitter), we can see what TrollInstallerX is expected to look like as it undergoes the TrollStore installation process. It features a similar UI with a blue background, the TrollStore logo, and a log that shows the installation steps as they happen in real time with major events throughout the process colored in green.

The post also confirmed what devices are to be supported, including the following:

  • iOS & iPadOS 14.0-16.6.1 (A11 and older devices)
  • iOS & iPadOS 14.0-16.5.1 (A12-A14 devices)
  • iOS & iPadOS 14.0-16.5 (A15-A16 devices)

There are plans to support newer versions up to and including iOS & iPadOS 17.0, however there isn’t yet an installation method available for this version. Consequently, TrollInstallerX doesn’t yet offer this functionality and won’t until a new installation method is found.

It’s worth noting that while overwriting a system app isn’t required in all cases when using TrollInstallerX, it will still be necessary in some cases, such as when installing TrollStore on arm64e devices running iOS or iPadOS 16.6-16.6.1.

It will be interesting to see how this project evolves, as TrollStore is still a particularly relevant utility even today. With it, users can permanently sign apps on their iPhone or iPad with a CoreTrust bug. It has the force and effect of sideloading, except without the strings attached such as the seven-day expiration period and the added benefit of elevated privileges that make things like the Serotonin ‘semi-jailbreak’ possible.
