Just a couple of years ago, iOS developer chr1s released a paid jailbreak tweak called Atlas that made iOS’ native video player more minimalist-friendly by shrinking it down and introducing several gestures for interacting with video playback.

This week, chr1s has released a lightweight version of Atlas dubbed Atlas Lite that doesn’t come with all the bells and whistles, but instead simply adds the double tap to skip gesture that many people enjoyed using from the original Atlas jailbreak tweak to the stock video player interface.

These double tap to skip gestures are present on both the left and right of the video playback screen, just like how they are in the YouTube app. With them, you can double tap on the right side of the playback screen to skip forward in the video, or you can double tap on the left side of the playback screen to rewind the video.

Since I’m so used to using this gesture in the YouTube app, I’m always bummed when I can’t use it in a video playing in the stock iOS video player, and for anyone who agrees, Atlas Lite is the perfect remedy.

Unlike the full Atlas jailbreak tweak that came with options to configure, including the ability to disable the double tap to skip gestures, Atlas Lite doesn’t have any options to configure. With that in mind, you won’t be able to disable the double tap to skip gestures unless you uninstall the jailbreak tweak completely.

In any case, given the fact that these gestures can be so convenient and useful, I wouldn’t see myself uninstalling this tweak anytime soon anyway.

If you’re interested in giving Atlas Lite a try for yourself, then you can acquire a copy for free from the Havoc repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS & iPadOS 16 and 17 devices.
