Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth‘s producer has given an update on the sequel’s development, noting that it’s still working on “nailing down” a final release date.


With all of Square Enix’s focus on Final Fantasy 16’s launch later this month, it’s been a dry spell for those of us waiting for news on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. Rebirth was announced this time last year and promised a release date in 2023, something that seemed incredibly unlikely considering that’s the last time we heard anything about it.

Don’t get your hopes up too much, but it seems that Square Enix is pretty confident about the current state of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Over on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Twitter page, the official account randomly tweeted a statement from Rebirth’s producer, Yoshinori Kitase, titled, “Developer comment 1”. In the statement, Kitase gives a brief update on the game’s development and notes that a release date is still being figured out.

After being asked how development on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is going, Kitase said, “Development is progressing smoothly and according to plan. We are currently working on nailing down a release date for the game”.
