Grand Theft Auto Online has fully revealed its next incoming update, arriving on June 13. The new update will add new content as well as some tweaks to make the experience more enjoyable for players.

Despite its increasing age, Grand Theft Auto Online continues to see regular updates, adding new events, missions, and improvements to the title. Major content updates have included Dr Dre’s The Contract and Los Santos’ Drug Wars, which both added new methods of earning money, unlockable upgrades, and a series of missions to play through. With Rockstar Games still remaining tight-lipped about the development of Grand Theft Auto 6, GTA Online seems poised to keep series fans involved and excited about the franchise.

The new update is entitled GTA Online: San Andreas Mercenaries and will task players with fighting Merryweather and “other dangerous adversaries.” Players will be able to join a group called Los Santos Angels whose goal is to take down Merryweather and its efforts to squash competition in the criminal underworld. GTA Online NPC Charlie Reed will make a return, leading players in various missions varying from hacking data to using explosives to blow up targets across Los Santos.

As part of the new content, the Mammoth Avenger will receive new upgrades with a full Operations Terminal and weapon improvements. Players will now be able to purchase and use the Avenger without a hangar, freeing up some GTA$ to spend on purchasing and improving the aircraft, rather than a place to store it. However, those who already own or decide to purchase a hangar will also get some benefits, letting them customize their Avenger from the hangar directly. The game will also see the addition of at least new weapon in the form of a Tactical SMG.

Furthermore, quality of life improvements have been promised, including the ability to have all destroyed vehicles restored at the same time by one’s insurance, easier ways of telling garages apart, and the ability to sprint by toggling a button instead of having to hold it down. All of these improvements and additions will launch for all current GTA Online platforms on the same day, so players should have plenty to look forward to come June 13.

While GTA Online is showing its age in several ways, the game’s continuous updates keep its playerbase engaged, and the fans are likely happy for it, especially considering the fate of Red Dead Online. While Red Dead Online is a younger game with improved visuals and game mechanics, it’s already seen the end of its major game updates, leaving fans disappointed at its unmet potential. At this point, there’s no telling how long this form of GTA Online will be supported, but it’s likely that Rockstar will continue to produce new content, vehicles, and weapons until GTA 6 – and its presumed online component – take the wheel.

GTA Online is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
